Your photographs have survived shoeboxes, basements, questionable albums and several decades of fingerprints. Let’s get them safely onto a screen before somebody places the family archive beside an open cup of coffee.

We digitize photographic prints, illustrations, drawings and other flat artwork up to 11 × 17 inches. Your originals are carefully scanned, cropped, oriented and checked before being delivered as high-quality digital files.

WHAT WE CAN SCAN

Our Epson V750 professional photo scanner handles photographs and flat artwork up to 8.5 × 11 inches.

Larger prints, documents and flat artwork up to 11 × 17 inches are scanned using our Epson WorkForce wide-format scanner.

CHOOSE YOUR SCAN

1. STANDARD JPEG

A clean, high-quality digital file suitable for sharing, viewing, social media, family archives and everyday printing.

2. HIGH-RESOLUTION TIFF

A larger file containing considerably more image information for editing, preservation and future reproduction. Recommended for original artwork, important photographs and anything you would be extremely upset to lose.

High-resolution TIFF scanning is available for originals up to 8.5 × 11 inches.

OVERSIZED ARTWORK & DOCUMENTS

Too large for the scanner? That has never stopped Photoshop.

Artwork, photographs and documents larger than 11 × 17 inches may be captured in multiple overlapping sections and carefully assembled into one seamless digital image.

Oversized scanning is quoted individually based on the dimensions, number of scans required, resolution, condition of the original and the amount of digital assembly involved.

Originals must be flat, unframed and safe to place on the scanner. Extremely fragile, rigid, textured or heavily curled pieces will need to be assessed before we can accept them.

For oversized scanning, email print@urbanartcollective.ca with the item’s dimensions, a photograph of the complete original and your preferred final file type.

WHAT IS INCLUDED

Every scan includes:

• Basic cropping and orientation
• General colour and exposure correction
• One digital file per original
• Delivery through a download link or customer-supplied USB drive

HOW IT WORKS

Purchase your scanning service online or in person at the UAC Print Lab.

If ordering online, select the correct original size or film format, scan quality and quantity.

Bring your photographs, artwork, documents, negatives or slides to:

UAC Print Lab at 50 Bayswater Avenue Ottawa, between 9AM-5PM.  

When you arrive, provide the name used to place your online order. We will use it to locate and confirm your order in our system.

Bring photographs, film and artwork in a protective sleeve, envelope, folder or archival storage page, loose negatives are tiny chaos and remarkably good at disappearing.

We will review your materials when they arrive. If the selected service does not match the original, or if additional restoration, cleaning or oversized scanning is required, we will contact you before beginning any additional work.

We will notify you when your digital files are ready and your original materials can be picked up.

Please do not mail original photographs, film or artwork to the lab unless you have contacted us and received confirmation first.

THE SERIOUS BIT

Remove photographs and artwork from frames, albums, sleeves and mounts before bringing them in. Originals must fit flat against the scanner glass.

Basic scanning does not include extensive restoration, colourization, scratch reconstruction, removal of major damage or the digital resurrection of somebody cropped out in 1987.

Do not attempt to flatten fragile, cracked or curled originals yourself. Bring them in and let us assess them first.

The condition, size and quantity of your originals may affect pricing and turnaround time. Standard production time is approximately 3–5 business days. Large collections may require additional time.
